On This Day in Chess History: May 26, 1894

German mathematician and philosopher Emanuel Lasker wins a 10th game in a bout against William Steinitz to become the 2nd ever World Chess Champion at the ripe age of 26. He would remain the World Champion for 27 years until 1921 when he was beat by Jose Raul Capablanca of Cuba.
